Description

This quick and delicious caramelized Brussels sprouts recipe combines perfectly roasted sprouts with a savory-sweet glaze and finely minced aromatics for a flavor-packed side dish that’s ready in minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 small shallot, finely diced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  2. While the air fryer is preheating, trim the Brussels sprouts, removing any damaged outer leaves and cutting larger ones in half (leave tiny ones whole).
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and maple syrup.
  4. Add the minced garlic, diced shallot, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the sauce mixture.
  5. Toss the Brussels sprouts in the sauce mixture until well coated.
  6. Place the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  7. Air fry for 8 minutes, then shake the basket and cook for an additional 4-7 minutes until the sprouts are tender on the inside and caramelized and crispy on the outside.
  8. If you have remaining sauce in the bowl, pour it into a small saucepan and simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly reduced.
  9. Once the sprouts are done, transfer them to a serving bowl and drizzle with the reduced sauce if desired.

Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For extra caramelization, you can add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to the sauce mixture.
  • These sprouts can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350°F (175°C) to restore crispness.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, you can roast these in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  • The key to the caramelized appearance shown in the photo is the combination of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and sweetener that creates a rich glaze as it reduces.
