Description
This quick and delicious caramelized Brussels sprouts recipe combines perfectly roasted sprouts with a savory-sweet glaze and finely minced aromatics for a flavor-packed side dish that’s ready in minutes!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 small shallot, finely diced (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- While the air fryer is preheating, trim the Brussels sprouts, removing any damaged outer leaves and cutting larger ones in half (leave tiny ones whole).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and maple syrup.
- Add the minced garlic, diced shallot, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the sauce mixture.
- Toss the Brussels sprouts in the sauce mixture until well coated.
- Place the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Air fry for 8 minutes, then shake the basket and cook for an additional 4-7 minutes until the sprouts are tender on the inside and caramelized and crispy on the outside.
- If you have remaining sauce in the bowl, pour it into a small saucepan and simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly reduced.
- Once the sprouts are done, transfer them to a serving bowl and drizzle with the reduced sauce if desired.
Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- For extra caramelization, you can add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to the sauce mixture.
- These sprouts can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350°F (175°C) to restore crispness.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can roast these in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through.
- The key to the caramelized appearance shown in the photo is the combination of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and sweetener that creates a rich glaze as it reduces.
