Description

Transform your Halloween party with these ghostly white poison candy apples. This chilling twist on a classic treat will send shivers down your guests’ spines and add a touch of eerie elegance to your spooky spread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples (or any tart apples)
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp white gel food coloring (or white food powder)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon extract (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Wooden sticks (for apples)
  • Edible white glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples to remove any wax. Insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
  2. Make the candy coating: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir continuously over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring. Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan and let the mixture cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Add the coloring and flavoring: Remove the pan from the heat, then quickly stir in the white food coloring, vanilla extract, and cinnamon extract (if using) until the mixture is fully combined.
  4. Coat the apples: Carefully dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling it to coat evenly. Let the excess drip off before placing the apples back on the parchment paper.
  5. Add glitter (optional): While the candy is still wet, sprinkle edible white glitter over the apples for a glittery effect.
  6. Let them cool: Allow the apples to cool completely and the candy shell to harden (about 30 minutes).

Notes

  • Be extremely cautious when working with hot sugar syrup. It can cause severe burns.
  • For best results, choose fresh, firm apples without any bruises or soft spots.
  • If the candy coating starts to harden while you’re dipping, reheat it gently to maintain the right consistency.
  • Store the apples in a cool, dry place. They’re best enjoyed within 24 hours of making.
