Ingredients
Scale
- 4 English muffins, split and toasted
- 4 sausage patties
- 4 large eggs
- 4 slices of American cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Toast the English Muffins
- Split the English muffins and toast them until golden brown. Set aside.
2. Cook the Sausage Patties
- Form the sausage meat into 4 patties, slightly larger than the English muffins (they’ll shrink when cooking).
- Cook the sausage patties in a skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until fully cooked. Set aside.
3. Cook the Eggs
- For perfectly round eggs:
- Grease the inside of egg rings or large cookie cutters.
- Place the rings in the skillet and crack an egg into each ring.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes, then carefully remove the rings.
- Flip the eggs and cook for another minute for over-medium eggs.
4. Assemble the Sandwich
- Place a sausage patty on the bottom half of each English muffin.
- Top with a slice of American cheese.
- Add the cooked egg.
- Place the top half of the English muffin to complete the sandwich.
5. Optional Step
- Wrap each sandwich in parchment paper and let sit for a minute. This will melt the cheese and steam the muffin slightly.
Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade sausage and egg McMuffin!
Notes
- Make-Ahead Option: Prepare the sausage patties in advance and freeze them. Cooked patties can be reheated quickly for a fast breakfast.
- Healthier Alternatives: Use whole wheat English muffins, turkey sausage, or egg whites for a healthier version.
- Additional Toppings: Add a slice of tomato, avocado, or a handful of fresh spinach for extra flavor and nutrition.
